Sweet Adelines
International is a worldwide organization of women
singing four-part harmony, barbershop style in over 600
chapters varying in size from 15 to nearly 200 members. Our region, Region #26, is called the Canadian Maple Leaf Region, and is the only all-Canadian region in the organization.
We have over 1000 members in 24 chartered choruses in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon Territory and Nunavut. |
Awards are given out for top performing small
choruses (up to 30 members); midsize choruses (30-60 members);
and overall top scoring choruses across the competition. Over
it's 45 year existence, Gateway Chorus has held numerous
championships for both the midsize category, and overall for
Region 26!
Thousands of members assemble annually for the highlight of the Sweet Adelines year
The International
Convention.
Convention is held in the
fall of each year at a popular destination site
carefully selected several years in advance and features
the championship choruses and quartets from around the
world.
Barbershop harmony fans from
all over the world gather to listen to the best quartets
and choruses from each region, as they compete for the
international championship, the Harmony Classic
Championships (best small and midsize choruses in the
world), and the Rising Star Championship (best quartet
under the age of 25). Gateway's success has allowed us to compete numerous times at the International level, including: - Nashville 2004 - Indianapolis 2006 - San Antonio Harmony Classic 2008 - Nashville Harmony Classic 2009 - Seattle 2010

Each Spring Region 26 hosts Regional
Convention and Competition in a city in Western Canada.
Choruses and quartets compete for the privilege of representing
our region at Sweet Adelines International Convention, which is
also held in a different location each and every year.
